Inspiring vintage science fiction art

June 18th, 2010
Vintage sci-fi art

Science fiction art had a remarkably different look back in the 70s and 80s, mostly due to the tools that were used (there was no such thing as digital paintings and Photoshop), and as a result, they all posses a style not very prevalent today, from the type of illustrations, to the bright, vivid colors and lighting, vintage sci-fi art manages to look anything like the stuff that’s produced today.

We’ve collected a gallery of inspiring vintage sci-fi art, from noted artists such as (links go to artists official websites): Shusei Nagaoka, Dean Ellis, Peter Elson, Kevin Hauff, Dan Mcpharlin, David Mattingly, and Chris Foss. Read on for the full gallery.

I recognise the work of Chris Foss. His futuristic images adorned many a science fiction paperback cover.
