Matte paintings have been a part of visual effects in films for over a century, dating all the way back to 1907. Since then, the technology has progressed, and now digital matte paintings seamlessly blend in with 3D effects and environments.
We’ve got a gallery of stunning matte paintings from well-known films, such as The Lord of the Rings, Superman Returns, Star Wars, The Island, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sin City and The Chronicles of Riddick.
